Prayer Week

why we pray

The Bible specifically instructs us to pray for all people and for those who lead in high positions because it pleases God.

“I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone…”
– 1 Timothy 2:1

There are many ways that you can participate in prayer. Below, you’ll find prompts that will help you pray and additional resources to help you grow in your prayer life and your time with the Father.

how to pray

Likewise, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” - Romans 8:26

As we turn the page to a new year, let’s lay our hopes, fears, desires, and needs at the feet of our Savior. This week, we’re asking our Woodside family to join us in daily prayer.

what to pray for

Sometimes prayer can be a tricky thing. We don’t know where to start or what to say. We’ve created four categories to help guide you in your prayer time—whether you pray for them all at once or day by day.

  • Ourselves
  • Our Families
  • Our Churches
  • Our Communities

Below you’ll find resources on each of these categories that provide Scripture and reflection questions to help guide you in your prayer time.

what is Biblical fasting

Isaiah 58 is a great starting point to understand biblical fasting. When we fast, we intentionally strip away something that we’ve become attached to. This can look like limiting or omitting food and/or secular pleasures for a period of time. When we do this, Isaiah notes that God is looking for a particular posture of the heart.

Biblical Fasting

preparing to fast

Before you consider a fast, ask yourself, “what does God desire from me? What kind of posture should I take before, during, and after I fast?”

  • Intentionally search out pride in your heart and humble yourself before God
  • Intentionally find ways to remove blinders to injustice, no matter how big or small
  • Intentionally find ways to be merciful to those in need
Biblical Fasting

how to fast

When you fast, be intentional. Plan to be sacrificial and not convenient. Plan to reflect the joy and love of God even when you’re struggling. Whatever you choose to omit from your life, commit to it for the entire length of time you’ve set aside for the fast.

When you fast, commit to a period of time that is sacrificial. If you have been fasting for diet purposes, consider prioritizing a heavenly focus during your fast instead of personal gains or losses.
