where we’ve come from

In 1955, Woodside was formed as the first evangelical church in Troy, MI. Fifty years later, our former Senior Pastor, Doug Schmidt, marked a new chapter of ministry by merging with a struggling church in Warren to form Woodside’s second campus. Since that time, the Woodside Family has continued to grow and evolve through additional church mergers and church plants throughout Southeast Michigan. Today, we are one family across 15 communities.

where we’re going

As we continue to follow God’s leading into new communities, we are prayerfully seeking to plant campuses in the university towns of East Lansing and Ann Arbor by 2026. Cities such as these represent the political and intellectual capitals of our state, and we at Woodside have an incredible opportunity to bring the truth of the Gospel into these spaces.

how we’ll get there

1. Pray & Plan

Currently, we’re seeking the Lord’s direction in developing a strategy for engaging the communities of East Lansing and Ann Arbor.

2. Build Relationships

We’re placing a high priority on cultivating relationships on each campus and in the surrounding communities, including collaborating with area churches to identify how Woodside can best serve these communities.

3. Identify Campus Pastor

Our next goal will be to identify a Campus Pastor for one of these cities by the fall of 2022. From there, we’ll build a core team to begin raising awareness through events and other ways of engaging the community.

4. Launch

Finally, we are prayerfully intending to launch the first of these two campuses by the fall of 2023!

Why are we seeking to plant campuses in university towns?

Cities like East Lansing and Ann Arbor represent the political and intellectual capitals of our state, where worldviews and identities are shaped, and the ideologies that construct our society are born. We are passionate about bringing the transformational power of the Gospel into these spaces, where the future minds of our state, our nation, and our world are being molded.

How can I stay in-the-know on the latest information?

Check back here to access the most up-to-date information on where we’re at in this process. If you have a specific question that isn’t addressed, head to the Contact Us section below to let us know.

How can I support this process?

First, and most importantly, pray. We long for your prayers as we seek God’s direction and provision in this initiative. Please join us in praying He will guide us through each step of the process in His perfect timing and according to His sovereignty.

Another important way you can help is by serving. This process will require volunteers to help put on events, raise awareness, and ultimately launch a campus in each community. If you’d like to learn more about this or other ways to get involved, let us know in the Contact Us section below.

Finally, you can help make these campuses possible by giving toward our Campus Accelerator Fund. It’s only by God’s grace and your generosity that we’re able to even dream about engaging East Lansing and Ann Arbor with the Gospel. Give Now

Will these campuses be only for university students?

These campuses will not be exclusive to students, but open to the community as a whole. As with all Woodside campuses, they will focus on multi-generational ministry and holistic community engagement.

Will these be churches or parachurch ministries?

These campuses will be churches, not parachurch ministries. To further clarify, we are not seeking to establish an on-campus ministry comparative to Intervarsity or CRU, but planting a Woodside campus in each of these communities.
