3 Truths You Can Count on Every Day

There is nothing worse than your alarm going off in the morning.

Ok, there are worse things, but that for sure must be on the list somewhere.

Each morning when our alarm goes off, we open our eyes, and our days begin. Well, sometimes it starts after hitting the snooze button multiple times, but at some point, our day begins. For many of us, waking up is the start of a long day full of tasks, obligations, work, family, church, school — you fill in the blank. We are instantly overwhelmed by what the day ahead of us holds. Sometimes just looking at our calendars alone is exhausting.

But no matter what our day might hold, as a believer in Christ, there are things that we know for a fact remain true every single day. They are truths that we need to have at the forefront of our minds as we start each day. Because if we don’t fill our minds with the truth that comes from God’s word, we can fall victim to the enemy’s trap — a trap filled with discouragement, frustrations, and lies.

Here are three truths to remember, hold on to, and start your day with.

1. God is with you

I have this habit first thing in the morning where I have to check my phone. Some may argue it’s a bad habit, and it probably is, but I do it to look at the day I have ahead of me. Most days, I’m exhausted before my feet even hit the floor.

Our to-do lists or schedules can so often feel daunting, and we are often left wondering, “how am I going to get through this?” While some days we can wake up on the “right side of the bed,” happy as can be, there are others where we wake up carrying the weight of fear, anxiety, grief, or sadness. Whatever side of the bed you wake up on, one thing is always true — God is with us. There is not one part of your day where God’s presence will leave you. As you go about your day, remember you are not alone.

Scripture is filled with verses declaring the promise that God is with us, He won’t forsake us or leave us. His presence is with us.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” — Deuteronomy 31:6

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” — Joshua 1:9

“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”- Deuteronomy 31: 8

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”- Romans 8:38–39

As you go about your day, remember that God walks with you! He will be right by you through every moment, every meeting, everything you experience. His powerful and peaceful presence is always with you.

2. God is for us

“What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” -Romans 8:31

At least once a day, it seems like something or someone is against me — the automatic check-out at the grocery store, the person riding my bumper on Rochester Road, or the overwhelming feeling of anxiety that creeps in throughout the day. Maybe for you it’s your boss, co-workers, a family member, or friend. We all face opposition in our day. But I love the sweet truth from this verse: there is nothing, no one, who is more powerful than God.

We are all going to face trouble or opposition. We can’t avoid it. But when we face those moments, we can hold onto the truth that our opposition is doomed to failure. God is on our side. He is working on our behalf and for our good — essentially, we have nothing to worry about.

And we see this promise all throughout Scripture.

“The LORD is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” — Psalm 118:6

“So, we can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” — Hebrews 13:6

God is for you. And nothing can separate you from Him. Nothing can overcome God’s love for us.

3. God will give you His grace

In case you didn’t know, you’re not perfect. None of us are.

Every day we are going to mess up, and every day God’s grace will pour over us. There will be multiple times throughout our day where we will mess up. We’ll snap at our kids, co-workers, the employee at whatever store we’re at, and the list could go on forever. It’s hard when we want to live each day in the likeness of Christ, but yet without fail, we fall short.

Romans 3:23 tells us that we “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” But if you keep reading verse 24 tells us that we are “justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ.” So, in the moments we say and do the wrong things, we must remember the grace and forgiveness God has given to us through His son, Jesus.

Now, this isn’t some free ticket to have road rage all the time, but it’s a reminder that the grace of God is given to us daily. His lovingkindness is bestowed upon us who are in Him no matter how many times we fail.
