What is Woodside’s commitment to global missions?
At Woodside, we are committed to carrying out the work of the Church by fulfilling the Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20/Acts 1:8) and the Great Commandment (Matthew 25:35-40) here and around the world. Our dedication to making the Gospel available throughout the world is expressed through our support of 75 missionary units serving in 14 countries, and through our global partners.
Here are just a few highlights of how God used our partnerships this past year to share His love with the nations.
- Cared for 527 at risk children and widows in Thailand and India.
- Shared the Gospel with nearly 200,000 people in some of the most unreached countries of the world.
- Provided emergency relief funds in response to the COVID-19 crisis in India, natural disasters in Kentucky, and the war in Ukraine.
- Trained 6,985 pastors, church planters, evangelists, and lay leaders in Myanmar, India, Thailand and Liberia.
- Started over 800 churches among unreached people groups in India, Thailand, and Africa.
- Provided theological training for nearly 200 pastors in Myanmar and India.
Are global partners supported through our general budget?
Woodside is generously supporting missionaries and our global partners through our general budget. We are also supporting at-risk children in India and Thailand through sponsorship and designated giving.
The giving opportunities explained on this page concern new, additional initiatives not covered by our general budget. It’s our desire to continue to expand our global reach so that everyone will have an opportunity to hear the Good News!
How do we evaluate our global partners?
A trusting relationship is a key to any global partnership. That’s why we spend time with our partners (in person, on Zoom, and through short-term mission trips) building the relationship, understanding their ministry, and establishing expectations.
Additionally, each partner provides regular updates on the programs and projects Woodside is supporting. Our desire is to ensure we are good stewards of the funds entrusted to us and that hope found in Jesus is available to everyone.
Why do we support missions around the world when the need for the Gospel locally is so great?
The need for the Gospel is the same all over the world, as each one of us has the same need for a Savior. Locally, we see the ministry of the Gospel go to our neighbors through our 15 campuses and through the lives of the thousands of people who call Woodside home. As believers, each one of us are to be His witnesses and are called to make disciples.
Globally, although the need for the Gospel is the same as it is in the US, there are many places where people don’t have access to the Gospel message. 42% of people in our world live in places where there are no Christians, no missionaries, and no churches to share the Good News of the gospel with them.
How does Woodside decide who to partner with?
God has given us a passion to make the Gospel known in places where it’s least available. As we meet ministry leaders serving around the world, there are several criteria considered in the decision-making process. Although we believe these priorities are important, we also recognize the power of mutual relationships with our partners, the influence of the Holy Spirit in our decisions, and the importance of spending time in prayer.
Priorities:
- Least Reached: The partner’s primary mission is to reach some of the world’s least-reached people groups with priority given to organizations working among unreached/unengaged people groups (<2% evangelical or <5% Christian).
- Gospel Centric: The partner is committed to bringing hope to individuals by leading them towards reconciliation with the Gospel of Jesus.
- Visionary Point Leader: The organization is led by a visionary point leader with a proven track record for developing leaders, building a thriving ministry, and experiencing community transformation while pointing people to Jesus.
- Multiplication Movement: The organization has the ability to make a significant impact on an identified people group, region, or country.
- Leadership Development: The partner has a defined leadership pipeline to develop indigenous staff, pastors, and laypeople to communicate the Gospel message, make disciples, and transform communities.
- Committed to Partnership: The partner is committed to building a trusted relationship that has open communication, understands expectations, provides ministry updates, and confronts failures.
- Theological Alignment: The partner organization and staff are in alignment with Woodside’s Statement of Faith and core beliefs.
- Financial Accountability: The partner provides transparent financial accountability and has a recognized organizational structure (i.e., Board of Directors) in place.
What qualifies as an unreached people group?
A people group is categorized as “unreached” when there is no indigenous community of believing Christians with adequate numbers and resources to evangelize this people group without outside assistance. (Less than 2% Evangelical Christian)
