God created us to live in perfect unity with Him, but when humanity chose pride and a desire for power (Genesis 3), sin created a divide between every human soul and our God (Isaiah 59:2). The longing in God’s heart for each and every one of us to be in a relationship with Him, to experience His unconditional love, to worship Him as our Heavenly Father, is unchanging. And so He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to live a sinless life on earth; die as the ultimate, eternal sacrifice for the sins of all humanity; and rise again as the only One worthy to mend the divide between the perfect God and our sinful heart.
Why does any of this matter to you? Because apart from God we experience brokenness, emptiness, anxiety, shame, fear, purposelessness, and all other forms of depravity. We fill our time, our homes, our lives, with the things of this world yet we’re empty. We are self-centered yet we hate ourselves. We strive to do better and be the best yet our lives crumble around us.
Only a heart reconciled with our Father, our Creator, through a relationship with Christ experiences unexplainable peace, unconditional joy, unshakeable purpose, and the assured hope of eternal life in God’s presence (John 3:16; Romans 6:23; John 5:24). Only then are we finally able to rest in the shelter of God’s love and accomplish unimaginable things for His glory.
If you have not yet entrusted your heart and life to Christ, repenting of your sin and trusting His power to grant you new life in Him, let today be that day. Respond to the calling, the aching, deep inside you for reconciliation with your Heavenly Father and place your hope and trust in Jesus Christ. Believe the day will come when Christ returns for His people and brings us to our everlasting home, where “there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain” and God will dwell with us in perfect harmony again (Revelation 21:3-4).
- Acknowledge you are a sinner separated from God.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
- Recognize you deserve eternal separation from Him.
“But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.” Isaiah 59:2
- Understand Christ died and rose again to redeem you from the sins that divide you from God.
“In Him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.” Ephesians 1:7
- Put your trust in Christ as your Savior, beginning a loving and eternal relationship with Him and your Heavenly Father.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
