How to Know Christ

What Does It Mean to Know Jesus?

Jesus walked with His disciples over 2,000 years ago, but He is still with us today (Matthew 28:20). You’re invited into a personal, individual relationship with Him through the Holy Spirit—which means you never have to face the challenges of life on your own. As you seek to know the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Jesus will walk with you, give you strength, and direct your paths all the days of your life (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Why Does This Matter?

None of us are perfect—in fact, we’re far from it. In the beginning, God created us to have dominion over the earth and live in direct relationship with Him (Genesis 1:26-31). But this relationship was broken when we chose to pursue our own understanding apart from the Father’s design (Genesis 3).

Because of this original sin, we were separated from our Creator. But in His great love for us, God sent His only Son, Jesus, to pay the ultimate price for our sinfulness—that we would again have access to eternal life with the Father (John 3:16-17). This promise of salvation is for everyone, no matter who you are or what you’ve done.

How Do I Accept Christ as My Savior?

  • Understand that each of us has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). The wage of our sin is death (Romans 6:23) and there is nothing in our own power that we can do to change that.

  • Believe that Jesus died for you. This is the Good News! His death on the cross is the substitute for the death that each of us deserves. When Jesus rose from the grave, He defeated sin and death forever, inviting those who believe in Him into eternal life.

  • Repent of your sin by first acknowledging it for what it is. Then confess your sin to the Lord with a genuine desire to turn away from it. Surrender the broken pieces of your humanity to the Father and accept His love, mercy, forgiveness, and grace.

  • Walk with the Lord by spending regular time in His Word and in prayer. Allow the Holy Spirit to shape and transform your life as you draw closer to the Father. Jesus is inviting you into a real and personal relationship with Him, not a compartmentalized one. He wants you to bear your heart honestly as you seek Him. Through it all, Jesus promises to walk with you all the days of your life. In the good and the bad, He will never leave you or forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:8).
