Who is Jesus?

It’s a question many have asked, pondered over. It is a question that leads us to want to know more.

We asked a handful of our Woodside Campus Pastors & Staff Members what some of the books they recommend people should read if they want to know more about Jesus are. While there are hundreds, including the Gospels in the Bible, we narrowed it down to these five — for now.

We hope these books will encourage you in your walk with the Lord and hopefully answer some questions you may have. We’ve given a brief description of each and linked them. Be sure to comment on your favorites as you read them and let us know some of your favorite chapters, quotes, and more!

More Than A Carpenter — Josh McDowell

Fifty Reasons Jesus Came to Die — John Piper

The most important questions anyone can ask are: Why was Jesus Christ crucified? Why did he suffer so much? What has this to do with me? Finally, who sent him to his death? The answer to the last question is that God did. Jesus was God’s Son. The suffering was unsurpassed, but the whole message of the Bible leads to this answer.

The central issue of Jesus’ death is not the cause, but the meaning. That is what this book is about. John Piper has gathered from the New Testament fifty reasons in answer to the most important question that each of us must face: What did God achieve for sinners like us in sending his Son to die?

Encounters with Jesus — Tim Keller

The people who met Jesus Christ in person faced the same big life questions we face today. Like most of us, the answers handed down to them didn’t seem to work in the real world. But when they met Jesus, things immediately started to change for them. It seems he not only had the answers — he was the answer. In Encounters with Jesus, Timothy Keller shows how the central events and meetings in Jesus’ life can change our own lives forever.
